Who should consider vaccination?

Chickenpox spreads easily in families, nurseries and schools. Vaccination lowers your chance of catching it and passing it on to others. You may benefit if you have never had chickenpox and want reliable protection for yourself or your child in Ealing.

Two doses are needed for the best and longest lasting protection. Doses are given four to eight weeks apart in the upper arm or thigh. The vaccine is a live vaccine. It is not suitable during pregnancy or for people with a severely weakened immune system.

Tell us before booking if you are pregnant, might become pregnant soon, or have had MMR in the last four weeks.

Common effects are a sore arm, a mild fever or a small rash near the injection site. These usually settle quickly with rest and fluids. If a small rash appears, keep spots covered and avoid close contact with people who have a weak immune system until scabbed over.

You can have the vaccine on the same day as other routine vaccines. If not on the same day as MMR, leave four weeks between them.

Our pharmacists will check eligibility, answer questions, and guide you on aftercare. You will leave with clear, written advice.
