Who needs cholera vaccination?

You may not need vaccination if your itinerary is low risk. The vaccine is usually advised for higher risk travel and for people with limited access to care.

The vaccine is a drink taken in doses before travel. Adults and children from six years usually need two doses given one to six weeks apart. Finish at least one week before you go. Protection can last up to two years.

Children aged two to under six usually need three doses on the same spacing. A booster is advised if risk continues. Boosters are typically after six months for younger children and after two years for older children and adults.

Good hygiene still matters. Wash hands with clean water and soap. Choose safe food and drinks. The vaccine reduces risk but does not replace careful habits during travel.

Avoid food and drink for one hour before and one hour after each dose. This helps the vaccine work as intended. We will show you exactly how to take it.

Smart food and water habits

Simple habits cut risk when abroad.

  • Drink sealed bottled or treated water
  • Avoid ice if you are unsure of the source
  • Eat food that is cooked and served hot
  • Peel fruit yourself and avoid raw seafood
  • Wash hands before eating and after toileting

Timing your doses right

Plan early so you can finish the course in time. Most travellers aged six and over need two doses at least one week apart. Complete the course at least one week before you travel from Ealing or West London.

Booked after work and it was quick. The team gave clear guidance on timing the doses before I flew to India.

Friendly, calm and professional. They checked my itinerary and told me I probably needed the vaccine, plus great hygiene advice for street food.

I appreciated the straightforward explanations and printed instructions. Finished the course on time and felt prepared for my volunteering visit.

Great with my five year old. They spaced the doses and reminded us when to return. Very reassuring throughout.

Clear advice, no fuss. I now know how to choose safe water and what to avoid abroad. Would use again.
